Another "spotted on the High Street" post. The chap in the hat was hard at work turning the wheel of his musical organ. He wasn't drawing a big crowd but it was creating a nice atmosphere in the centre of town. Although the organ looks a bit home-made, what with the pram wheels, it did sound quite tuneful. And even though the organ grinder was deep in conversation with the passer by, he kept on turning that wheel.

I'm amazed that organ grinders still exist! I only ever got to read about them in my children's books. If that's homemade, then the creator is very talented. It looks wonderful and provides such a bright spot of color on the street!
Where's the monkey? ;)
I've seen organ grinders here and there in Europe, but never here. The gypsies used to come around with dancing bears, but thankfully now to animal rights groups, these bears have been confiscated. But long live the hurdy-gurdy man!
No way! Now that's going way retro. The organ looks prand new. Did he have a pup with a cup for tips? (I am sure monkeys cannot be exploited that way any more. :)
I like these old street organs , beautiful shot !
Is this Montepellier and not Montpellier Gardens? A little European flavour. I can honestly say this is a first for me - an organ grinder in the UK. Plenty of monkies though! Love to know what that they were nattering about. Really like this so unusual. Well spotted and captured.
I was looking for the monkey but I expect the monkey union prohibits them working for peanuts these days.
I do not recall witnessing an organ grinder on my travels. Interesting instrument, the wheels appear out of place. But I imagine they make for a smoother commute.
Beautiful and whacky!
I'll bet it made a nice sound. It doesn't look like he had many tips in his bucket. A sign of the times I guess. At least this guy stopped to chat.
Glad to hear he was tuneful - not every busker is!
I never seen organ grinder before. This one looks great to me. I wish I could hear the sound..
don't see many of these around anywhere here!
