Raising The Roof

Now I know what you're all thinking. That I'm obsessed with the renovation of the Regent Arcade shopping centre. Well, its not so much obsession as overly interested! Anyway, those that have been following Cheltenham DP know that the Regent Arcade is undergoing a makeover and that the arched roof is being removed and is being replaced with a flat glass one. After weeks of scaffolding the old roof has started to vanish. This photo was taken on the top of the car park, through the safety fencing, and four storeys below those open arches is the Arcade! To stop the shoppers getting wet there is a temporary roof made from planks of wood and lots of plastic sheeting! To see the roof as it was go here.

I'll keep you posted with the work, whether you like it or not!

I cannot imagine why they'd want to change it. Will it add more space for shops? But our mall went from a covered one to an open mall - PV is out of the way for LA to come shopping, so the stores don't do well but the open mall has been a great success & is much prettier. Fascinating watching the construction progress. (looks like a really good entry for 2 things challenge! - lots of joints & it certainly is a venture.)

lol - keep us updated - that's funny, whether we like it or not! hehehe!

I found where you told me to go to get the list for "My Favorite Daily Photo Blogs" - I found it, but when I click "Save" - it doesn't do anything - I tried adding a few links and then click save, then I tried saving before I added the links - it just won't save. I guess something is wrong w/ my page or something. I also tried clicking the choice to add the blogs I follow - but it still isn't working. Do you have anymore suggestions? Thank you so much.

It is fascinating to follow the construction of a building in stages.

When I was little and we got to Dayton, Ohio where the Wright Brothers lived, we sometimes went to the Arcada. It was a glass house with all sorts of quaint shops inside. To me it was like tinkle town or a place of fairies and it is still there and still the story of the day in the newspaper. While other giant malls came and went down under the destruction ball, the Arcade stood tall in glass.

Most of our most successful malls have been torn down and the land is vacant.

Ah that thing called progress. More like regress. The former for me. Will watch your project with interest.

I do like it! I've not been there for a while, so it's good to see how it's getting on.
