Spa Water

This was my other choice for Theme Day (I know. I'm milking it!) The photo shows the place you can try Cheltenham's Spa Water in the Town Hall. I've told you about the Town Hall before but didn't really mention this. To the left of the entrance hall of the building is this, the Central Spa. It opened in June 1906 to allow visitors and Cheltonians alike to drink the Cheltenham Spa water. The octagonal counter and urns are made by Doulton, although only one of the urns now has a tap for trying the water. As I've said before, the water is quite salty and doesn't taste very nice, but I suppose this is why people used to think it had medicinal properties!

Great blog! How do you manage to get out almost every day and take a picture of something new each time? Are you working in the town centre and take the pic on a lunch break?

It's very grand isn't it - you'd believe the water was good for you coming out of something like this!

Anonymous, I can't answer for Marley, but as another daily photo blogger, I don't take a picture every day, but often take lots at a time and then use them up gradually. I know some of the bloggers don't use pictures that are more than a week old though. I often have my camera with me though, in case I come across something random, but more often than not I find it's the days I forget to have the camera with me when I see something interesting! So I guess I won't be giving up the day job just yet :)

Can't be as bad as the Thames water that the authorities are trying to convince us is better than bottled water.

Anonymous - Exactly as Jackie says! And like Jackie I always forget my camera the day I see something worth photographing! I'm glad you like my photos. Check out some of the other City Daily Photo blogs for some really good shots :)

Those urns are quite beautiful when you enlarge the picture. I love that vibrant blue color. It's good that you can still try the water there. How interesting!

I've never seen anything quite like this . . . it takes "spa" to a whole new level for me ;) Thanks for all your interesting posts, Marley!

So what's in the water of a spa? Perhaps the water comes from a good source way back then, which gave way for its special properties. In time, the water must have changed, but the place still has a sense of grandness to it.
