Bless You!

This is my last post on the art exhibition at The Brewery development. These are my two favourite drawings, the detail in the first is amazing (click on it for a larger version) and the second is just quirky! Hope you've enjoyed seeing the artistic talent that Cheltenham has to offer.

Our saying of "bless you" when someone sneezes originated in the medieval belief that one's soul left for a moment when one sneezed - so they wanted to send you off with a blessing should the soul decide not to re-inhabit the body it had just left!

In a different context is this line from T.S. Eliot's "La Figlia Che Piange", as the soul leaves the body torn and bruised/as the mind deserts the body it has used..."

Wonderful series. The drawing in the top photo is my favorite, too.
