River, Not A Stream

This is the River Chelt. I know it looks like a babbling brook but it's the nearest we get to a proper river in Cheltenham. The stream (sorry, river) meets the River Severn at Wainloads Hill before joining the Bristol Estuary, and then the Atlantic Ocean. The Severn starts in Wales and flows for 220 miles. Its funny to think that our little River Chelt helps create the UK's longest river. Does your town or city have a river flowing through it?

This looked so familiar to me that I thought I'd seen a similar stream on your blog before - but no! the stream looks just like the stream at Mammoth Mountain (an all year resort town in Northern Calif.). I'll post it soon for comparison.

WEll yes, the Cahaba River and we are darn proud of it. The Cahaba lily is especially beautiful when it blooms. I have never canoed to see it but my daughter ,the tree hugger has. May post one next spring! Yours? Doesn't look so much like a river but it's your call!

River or stream, you've captured it beautifully. I'd love to be sitting right next to it NOW. Yes, we do have a river just blocks from our house, within walking distance and it's the Mighty Mississippi. It's one of the perks living here. The Mississippi starts out in Itasca, MN as a tiny rivulet that one can jump across. It's a visit that most Minnesotans make and it is wonderful to see and then to imagine how it ends up in the Gulf. Quite a difference!

Neat. River is asking a lot as it would be a creek here; still, if you say so.

We have a few creeks, no rivers. If you want to see a babbling brook, ask Brian from Terrell Texas to show you it.

Hi

We did not get to visit River Chelt whilst in UK. Am now at Heathrow T5 waiting for a flight back to Singapore.

So I thought I will visit your site ;-)

A beautiful river. Love the swirls in the water and that beautiful light. It looks to run quite fast. A lovely photo, Marley.

No river in Inverness, unfortunately...but we do live near Lake Michigan......which ultimately goes to the Mississippi and then to the Gulf of Mexico......or so I have been told!!!!

Well I don't like to boast, especially as I'm still a newby, but doesn't really compare to the Thames. hehe 1 to me.

We have the Potomac. It headwaters are in Fairfax Stone, West Virginia and it flows for 383 miles through West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. It drains into the Chesapeake Bay, which is shared by Virginia and Maryland. It's a lovely river.

And the River Chelt is lovely, too. Though in a far more bucolic manner than the Potomac.

P.S. Per the Liebowitz exhibit: It was in D.C. recently. I missed it but too friends went and said it was extraordinary and "not to be missed." (Obviously and sadly, I did a poor job of taking their advice.)

And that should have said TWO friends, not TOO friends. Sorry 'bout that! I think I need to call it a night!

Now you have me thinking; did somebody claim the yellow bicycle laying in this river?
