A Pizza Church

Last night Phoebe and I went to one of our favourite restaurants for something to eat, to celebrate the start of our week off of work (Yay!) This is Zizzi's, an Italian restaurant now taking up residence in a former church, which the new owners restored the interior of, keeping nearly all of the original features of this fantastic Gothic Revival style building. The top photo shows the open kitchen, with pizza oven, in the area that was once the altar. As you can see, the place is beautifully lit at night which enhances all of the stone work. The photo below shows the balcony, which is where you'll find the bar. Last night there was someone playing the piano, you can see the lid of the grand piano in the bottom of the photo. Hopefully you'll be able to make out the wooden ceiling with its carved features. If you want to see the outside of the building then check out a previous post here.

Both of these photos were taken with my camera phone, hence the quality.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Now this is something you just have to see and read about to believe! I would have never thought such a place would ever exist! An open pizza kitchen in a former church altar! Amazing!

Wow...the atmosphere of this place is great and the stonework is beautiful! I just can't imagine, though, drinking beer and eating pizza inside a former church. It must almost given a person an odd feeling...or maybe not.

By the way, your cell phone takes great photos!

What a great way to repurpose a beautiful space! I should pass this idea along to the parish priest of St. Gabriel's here in the city. He needs to raise a little dough, so to speak. This might be just the solution!

Beautiful church, er...pizza parlor!

Wonderful! And it made me laugh out loud, thinking how this nation of Catholics would react to having something like this. Absolutely precious! :D

Have a wonderful weekend too! Sounds like you're off somewhere again… ;)

That does look like a lovely place to have a meal. I like the Zizzi's meals I've had in other places (haven't been to this one).

And I did groan at your title!

I would not cherish the thought long about eating dinner in a church. There is something about that kind of atmosphere that makes eating difficult. Shouldn't but it would.

Today (October 25th) in my birthday. I am 74 years old.

Maybe eating in a church would tend to make one keep conversations civil and relatively quiet! I would love to try this place.

What an amazing place - it must be quite an experience to eat here. I'd love to. And super photographs too, Marlay. The atmosphere looks as if it must be entrancing.

This is wild - now that's a twist for space reuse. Looks like a beautiful spot!
