Green Light

I've been meaning to photograph this light for ages. It hangs, along with half a dozen others, in the window of Jones' Shoe Shop on The Prom. The lights are so unusual. They serve no purpose, other than decoration, but they just make a display of shoes, laid out in the shop window, simply interesting.

I have two prominent memories of Jones's shoe shop. One - going there as a kid to get fitted for school shoes. We had to go upstairs to the children's department, where they had a rocking horse. Always good fun! Two - my dad coming home one Christmas Eve with a bag of Christmas table decorations that came from the window display of Jones'! He was passing by and saw them packing up, ready for the sales on Boxing Day, and asked if he could have them! Well, if you don't ask you don't know!

Do you know what this reminds me of?
Joe 90. Adore this. I swear it's moving. Green Onions too. I'm back dnacing at the northern soul night of my '80's school disco.

I adore this green light! But most especially I enjoyed reading your post and hearing your memories of the shoe shop.

I love that your dad asked for the decorations and received them!

The story of trying on shoes in the children's section brings back memories of my own childhood and receiving a new pair of school shoes. It was such a big event in those days!

Good memories. Good light! Had to laugh at your comment on my blog today re. the Mercado and meat section...I don't think you'd shop there. My granddaughter is fascinated!!!

I have a thing for light fixtures so I love this post! Very interesting color — maybe not for the home though. But the round lamp itself, yes.

Love the story about your dad and the Christmas decorations! :)

Beautiful light! It looks like a huge Christmas tree ornament! Loved reading about your memories...I like the idea of Boxing Day. I do box things, but not just after Christmas.

Quite the green decoration. I wonder if the rocking horse still up in the children's department.
