Gods Window

A photo from neighbouring Tewkesbury today, as I need to get out and get snapping in Cheltenham. This is one of the stained glass windows of Tewkesbury Abbey. I'm not sure what this one depicts (any ideas?) but the detail and colours are amazing. If you think that when this was created there were no computers, no special technology aiding creation, just man made skill, it is even more impressive. It must have taken many weeks, if not months, to create this marvellous window. God knows how they did it. Actually, he probably does!

Click on the photo to get an even better look at the detail.

Beautiful colors in this! and yes, it amazes me how they managed to create such intricate things on such a large scale without calculators or computers!

What brilliant colors - you sure are right about how amazing this art and special craft is.
I liked the 10 Downing St. with Obama - last time I saw that door was during my last annual viewing of Love Actually. I gotta look a more news & less movies.
I'm amazed that there was so much fireworks even with the rain - not an experience I've ever had. Sure looks like it lit up the sky.

The quotation is from Luke 18: 9-14, a parable Jesus told about righteous people who looked down on everyone else, featuring a Pharisee and a tax collector. :)

I love stained glass windows. The shading of this one is absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for this, Marley.

It seems from reading briefly that there were "set designs" for certain stained-glass figures - a bit like "templates" I suppose and they worked from these so the same designs (but with local variations) appear in several places.

Still excellent works of art nonetheless

They are beautiful Marley. I wish our church had beautiful windows like this but most churches now adays are just big plain buildings to house more people.

There are some stunning glass windows in churches around the UK. I am always amazed that they have survivied for so long and so many wars.

That's a glorious shot! I always marvel at stained glass, particularly when it was made long ago. Such artistry!

The colours are amazing. I'm usually rubbish at taking stained glass window photos (though I did manage one I was pleased with from the Cathedral for my blog a few months ago). This has caught the colours and shapes really well.

I was amazed and impressed to see these stained glass windows in person when we took a hoiliday to Italy and France. (England is next on our agenda in the future). Amazing how these cathedrals were built without cranes or modern heavy equipment.
