Old And New

"Louis" prefers the old building to the new, despite the good use of the property by the new one. "Louis" just isn't much of a fan of the 'stacked ice cube tray' school of architecture....
For a pub it looks nice, flowers and all. When I think of pub I think of beer signs and dark colors.
I'm glad they reused brownfield land, and I might even forgive the tedious vanilla architecture if they have a decent stout on tap...
The old pub looks more dignified and classier than that glass building down the road.
This is one instance where age trumps youth. :-)

I think the idea of re-using old buildings are quite cool.
In my city, there are a few abandoned development projects which are turning into eye-sores. If only someone came up with some practical uses.
i like the flowers on the side... i wonder if its pronounced 'bays-hill' or 'bay-shill' =)
I must admit I'm much more interested in the pub than those new buildings. Love both the sign and those colorful flowers!
This is a very inviting-looking pub! I,too, prefer the architecture and the flowers to the modern railroad station. Gotta get our priorities right: a littl libation before a trip!
Good to see Brownfileds relaimed and reused. That does look like many pubs here. Gotme thinking I need to photograph some pubs. Cheers for the reminder. Love the colours on those flowers. Bright but not garish. You're really getting the hang of this photography lark aren't you.

Tanya summed it up: what makes the old pub so nice is the luxuriant flower baskets! If you remove them, it loses a lot of its charm.
I am really not sure which of the old or of the modern building is the most interesting architecturally: they look equally remarquable but the juxtaposition of the two is a bit off. Come to think of it: if you removee the flowers, they blend with each other better. Or if you add flowers to the new building, it does too. See? I just proved it: flowers are always the answer.
Those are fabulous hanging baskets! They must have taken ages to plant.

I am just starting to check blogs again, and my comment on yours today is that I love recycled old buildings. Here many old buildings are being torn down, not recycled.
