Model Arcade

No, I haven't been flying over Cheltenham in a helicopter. This is the model on display to show how the revamped Regent Arcade will look. The work to exterior is a long way from being started but the interior make over is under way. I'll show you that another day. As you can see from the two photos, the change isn't amazing. Basically a closed in arched front. The architects wanted to replace the area at the front with a large glass canopy, but Cheltenham Borough Council were having none of it! It seems a shame that the opportunity to create a stylish facade has been wasted. But that's the way it goes.

If you want to see my other posts on the Regent Arcade, including its history, then click on 'regent arcade' in the labels below.

Hm. Well, the first thing I'd do is nix the Burger King. Looks like a smart, simple makeover for a lovely arcade.

Sometimes, the city council and local population are afraid of radical changes.

Look on the bright side, Marley. They didn't tear it down to build an all-glass tower or worst, a mall.

Councils do seem to err on the conservative side in the UK, that and the paternalistic view that they know what is best for us. I hope they aren't intending to put more spying cameras up. The makeover does look nice though.

You have to admit that the contrasting trim does make it look more interesting. But it's still a mall…

;P

Simple and classic.

Town planners are the last people who should be allowed to design a town. The facelss seemed quite tasteful too. This reminds me of Bourton -On- The- water model village

I didn't know there was a Burger King in Cheltenham. That should be the first to go under this new renovation. Sorry, my opinion. These fast food joints are displacing real restaurants.

It is intersting how communities decide to updgrade isn't it? I have to agree with Ming...at least this one you can live with!! Burger King or not!

A glass front would have been interesting - though how long would it have lasted on a Saturday night after closing time?

Thanks for all your comments while I was away - I'm getting back to normal now and trying to catch up with everyone!

I am not sure what was wrong with it in the first place. Tie Rack, Burger King, ... this could be the US.
