Trolley Park

Here is another photo of the not-so-nice side of Regency Cheltenham - shopping trolleys and rubbish. This was taken just off of the Lower High Street, by the bridge that carries the former Honeybourne track, now a cycle route. I really like all the elements in this shot - the brickwork, the iron gate, the rubbish and, of course, the trolleys. I know its sort of perverse, but I quite like it when I stumble across a photo op like this. Makes a change from my usual fare, though in some parts of town this is common place.

Sit On The Line

The nuts, bolts and iron from yesterdays post all make up this rather unusual bench. There are several of them alongside the Honeybourne cycle path. This path, away from the main roads, links one side of town to the other, and follows the route of a former railway line. I doubt if the benches are made from the material of the Honeybourne line, as it ceased to exist many years ago and the seats are a recent addition, but it is an effective nod to the paths former life. I like them, though they're not that comfortable to sit on!

Sky Watch Friday

Bridge and sky.

You can see the blue sky is trying to break through the cloud. Last weekend it won the battle. We are told the same will happen this weekend. We finally get our Indian summer. Thankfully.

This is the crisp white Honeybourne foot bridge, Cheltenhams newest bridge.

Wood

I really like the age rings (is that what they are called?) and the grain of the wood in this photo. I think the black and white helps enhances the textures. This is a close up of a bench, made from wooden blocks, along the Honeybourne bike route. I guess if cyclists get tired they 'wood' be able to have a rest!

Theme Day - Bridges

This bridge is a relatively new feature in Cheltenham. The Honeybourne Bridge forms part of the former Honeybourne Line that once ran out of Cheltenham Train Station. The former train line came into St James' Station, now Waitrose supermarket, which was unused since the 1960's. For many decades the route of the former track has been a cycle path linking Cheltenham Spa Station to the Leisure Centre. When the Borough Council passed plans for the redevelopement of the St James' site the bridge was required due to new roads crossing through the cycle path. This new bridge now carries cyclists and pedestrians saftely along the route of the once great train system.
