Green Balls

Yes, another Autumn themed photo. I told you you'd be sick of it by the end of the week! These green balls were covering the ground, they must be related to the Horse Chestnut tree but had no conkers inside, so I've no idea what they are. Any thoughts? Tash, you are always good at finding things out when I can't be bothered!

Composers Baton

I know its not quite like a baton, but it is a sort of hairy furry version. No I'm not going mad! I just like how the grass looked next to the fountain and statue of Cheltenham born composer Holst. That is it really. I know my posts seem to be getting shorter and shorter these days but I'm getting to the point of just wanting to post a photo and not think of something to say. Anyway, enjoy the photo.

This spiky little chap was busy munching his way through a sunflower leaf. The plant was about seven feet tall so he had plenty to go at!

Just Desserts

I'm short of photos so time to share a delicious dessert with you all. This is one of the very fine puddings at The Daffodil restaurant - green apple and calvados parfait with blackberry compote. So there!

For my birthday last week Phoebe made these delicious cakes, and this photo is all that is left of them! Today its Phoebe's birthday, and I'm no master baker, so instead of offering burnt cakes I give a photo of scrummy cakes!

Glad Its Green

Mother Nature, with a helping hand from us humans, creates flowers of all kinds and colours. These gladioli are the limiest zestiest colour green imaginable. A real colour punch!

Alien Flower

Self praise is the best form in my book and I'm going to go all out today and congratulate myself on what I think could be my best macro photos yet! Modesty is my middle name! I 'borrowed' this unusual looking flower from a garden I was walking by. I've no idea what it is but it made a fantastic subject.

The winner of the best top tip on Thursday was Jackie from Glasgow DP. Her top tip was - 'Ensure you have a balanced diet. Hold a cake in both hands.' Something I think we can all learn from!

What's Black And White And Red All Over?

Today's photo! Or a newspaper. Get it? Black, white, red all over. Oh, never mind! I spotted this bright red door the other day, well its hard not too. Lots of the Regency buildings around Cheltenham have basements and cellars that are accessed by doors on the outside of the buildings, down steep stairs. These steps had iron railings with this ornate decoration.

A really close close-up today. I love the contrast between the cerise pink and sunny yellow of this primrose. We all need bit of colour in our lives and today I give you your daily dose!

Daffodil

I think its safe to say its officially spring. The trees are in bud, the blossom is flowering, the bulbs are bursting and the flowers are...well...flowering! I don't think anything says spring more so than the humble Daffodil. In Cheltenham the parks, gardens and roadside verges are beginning to wash over with a sea of yellow. Beautiful.

Gerberas

Talk about the wonder of Mother Nature with a helping hand from us humans! These gerberas are stunning. What an array of colours and textures. I spotted these at a local florist shop the other day and was drawn to them immediately. I love the double orange one. Beautiful.

Snowberries

I thought I'd start the week with a macro photo. The Snowberries are a common sight around town at this time of year, these ones are planted around the tennis courts at Montpellier Gardens. I found the following about the plant at Wikipedia "Symphoricarpos is a small genus of about 15 species of deciduous shrubs in the family Caprifoliaceae. All but one are natives of North America and Central America; the one remaining is from western China. Its common names in English are Snowberry and Waxberry. It is a member of the Honeysuckle Family, the Caprifoliaceae." So there you go! If you split the berry open the inside is like granules of snow, very cool. But they are poisonous - no making Snowberry Pie people!
