Winter Garden

The "big freeze" continues. The temperature fell to -10c the other night, the snow is still on the ground and the roads are icy. We really aren't used to this here, a cold day or two is the norm. Though it is nice to get home in the evening and get warm. I've had to have several glasses of Port to keep my temperature up!

Today's photo shows a snowy Imperial Gardens, just behind the Town Hall. The area used to be the site of the Winter Gardens. The glass roofed building was used for concerts, exhibitions and housed a cinema. The building opened in 1878 and was demolished between 1940 and 1944, partly because its glass roof may have been a target for bombers in the Second World War, but mainly because it was in a poor state of repair. It would be a great if a similar building could be reinstated on the Gardens. I think it would make a fine addition to Cheltenham.

I'm getting cold again. Where's the Port?

Ah Marley, your turn for snow. I'll just bet Mary Beth of Small City Scenes is responsible for this and sent you her extra :)

Looks like what we had here recently. It's cooooold today, too. There's a special brew they drink here, which I may post next time I make one.... Very potent; thank goodness for autofocus...

Don't you just want to keep that lovely wide open space? So you won't bump into anything after drinking all that Port! ;)

Keep warm, Marley!

Wonderful composition on this. It's stark and spartan, and conveys the bone chilling cold from the edge of the clouds to the tramped down snow. Brrrrr... I think I'm gonna make a cuppa.

I like your snow and the outline of the gardens....

Am I seeing this photo correctly? Is that water directly in front of the building, then the snow begins? It almost looks as if the building starts where then snow ends! Nice shot!
What's port? I'm thinking it's some kind of alcoholic beverage to warm you? Anyway, it's in your hand silly! hehehe

Wow, certainly a lot colder out your way. Inside with the port is definitely the best activity until the great melt.

Looks very pretty Marley. Haven't seen the Imperial Gardens in the snow.

Ms Hays, port is a fortified red wine and is very very very nice indeed - mmmmmmmmm! It's mainly drunk during the cold winter months for some reason - probably because it has rather comforting qualities! Lovely shot Marley. Still no snow here.

LOL, you crack me up! There's snapping turtles in the pond that my husband doesn't want anywhere near him and his parts, lol.

Well it was like that here for a couple of days and I got a few nice snowy pictures (not of Hyde though so not for the blog) and now it has almost melted overnight and the fog has come down.

Can't say that the weather is "boring" can we?

Port in winter, really? Straight up bourbon is a bit quicker in the warming department. The pastel sky is pretty. Have you noticed how people walk? Look at the footprints in the snow. Never a straight line, always meandering. I am suspecting it must be the port.
