Recession

Well, its official. The UK is in recession. We've had two quarters of negative economic growth. Its been said on the news today that it could continue well into 2010. Empty shops like these will be soon be common place.

I'm working all weekend, so think of me as you all enjoy yourselves. Actually I suppose I should be pleased I've still got a job!

We have so many empty storefronts here too. I guess it's only going to get worse for the time being. Let's hope for a rebound soon. Hope you have time for at least a little relaxing this weekend!

A sign of the times, I'm afraid.

Marley,
Feel blessed you can work all weekend as hard as that must be. So many are out of a job. Your post is so timely.

Yes, be thankful you still have a job - I work for my parents at a furniture moving company & we may be closing our doors soon too! I can't believe this is happening!!!

Even without a caption, this photo says it all. I am very thankful to have a job.

I think there has been a domino affect that shouldn't have happened. The banks are in trouble but that shouldn't affect other sectors of business. When I talk to people in other industries they read all the glum reports but actually their business is not in trouble. However if Brown keeps throwing money at bankers like he is the UK will be in trouble for centuries. Don't work too hard over the weekend. have some fun too.

I took a similar picture this week which will appear sometime next week. I guess it's like this up and down the country.

Hope work isn't too much of a pain today and you still get a chance to relax! All work and no play make Marley a dull boy ;)

Shops here seem to be closing on an almost daily basis. A local gift shop closes its doors next Saturday. I think Brown would have been better giving us the money directly, rather than giving it to the banks to hoard.

Things are definitely going to get worse here before they get better. Empty stores are a sorry sight indeed. It's not only mom & pop stores closing shop but some of our retail giants are freeing up retail space as well.

That's what I tell myself when I have to work overtime too. We're still very blessed.

This is the problem. They will work you all weekend and other snot at all. This is a terrible sight, but great image.
