Kitchen Magpie

The reason I first took this photo was because of the black and white window display matching the awning. But when I loaded it on to the computer I realised that the display was magpie themed - black and white and all things shiny. If you click to enlarge the photo you can make out the following written in the window - '1 for sorrow, 2 for joy, 3 for a girl, 4 for a boy, 5 for silver, 6 for gold and 7 for a secret never told.' This is a traditional children's nursery rhyme about magpies. According to an old superstition, the number of magpies one sees determines if one will have bad luck or not. I'm quite superstitious and if I see a loan magpie I salute and say "Morning Mr. Magpie." That does away with the bad luck (sorrow)! Anyway.... if you need something for your kitchen, this is the place to find it. They have everything - pots, pans, baking trays, knives, egg cups - the lot!

Do you have any superstitions?

Hmmm I don't think so, none that I can think of right now anyway! I wonder if this place has a web site - I'll check that out in a jiffy, but I really like the look of this place, the black & white is really eye catching

No "superstitions" per say, but lots of obssessive-compulsive behavior that might qualify.

Oh I didn't know this one. I see magpies all the time. Do I always have to say Morning Mr Magpie? I'm not really superstitious, but I never walk under a ladder. I always throw a pich of salt over my shoulder if it gets spilt. I ask for a copper coin if I give a knife as a present. Hmm maybe just one or two things.

Sounds like a place I'd go ga-ga in!

Lots of superstitions among Filipinos, but none for me (off the top of my head, that is). Thank goodness I grew up with scientists as parents! :)

I could spend a lot of time browsing there! I guess those baskets out front are for the shoppers. I'm very superstitious too. I always have to knock on wood if I say something good that I don't want to change. I suppose lots of people are like that.

This is a great "black and white" photo!

Shades of black and white and gray, very nice.

Gee, there are gads of magpies/crows in our yard....not sure which are which, so perhaps I'd better salute them all.

Kitchen shops! Almost as good for comfort shopping as stationery shops, but not quite. Paperchase exercise books and pens rule for me.

Superstitions - I don't like Christmas decorations after 12th night or umbrellas up in the house.

And on blogger, I believe that when the word verification looks like a real word, it is secretly trying to tell me something.

I could have done this post. I have a magpie one ready just waiting for the pic. I say good morning too The awning is stylish. I missed out on monochrome 1960's but this takes me there. one of my favourites.

nicely done window & you really spoted it well.
Superstitions? A rational being like me? I'd tell you what they are but it's bad luck to talk about them. ;)

Yes, but it would be bad luck to say. Interesting rhyme, love this store.

What about the old tv programme of the same name? ITV's version of Blue Peter. They used the rhyme as their theme tune.
